Physical Education

Welcome to the PE section of our website.  Here you will find information about our PE curriculum.

Goonhavern Primary School belongs to the Newquay Learning Partnership. The partnership, through Tretherras and Treviglas, organise the sporting tournaments, events and festivals that our children participate in.

How does Physical Education help to embed the school’s values?

Education provides an excellent vehicle to support children to truly develop as individuals. Through our Physical Education curriculum,  children learn the school values in a purposeful and real-life context.

Team sports allow many opportunities for developing collaboration.  When playing games, children are taught to communicate effectively with each other, discussing tactics and working together.

Sport - particularly individual events - provide children with the opportunity to benchmark their performances against themselves and others. Children learn that when you work hard, you can improve at something.  They can track their self-improvement by improving different aspects of their performance. For example, how quickly they can run 60m; how far they can throw a tennis ball or the place they come during cross-country events.

Successful sportsmen and sportswomen show incredibly high levels of resilience. They learn to bounce back from a poor performance or accept a mistake and continue.  They do not give up when things become challenging and push themselves physically and mentally.
