Goonhavern Pre-SchoolGoonhavern Primary School

We actively look for opportunities to work with our community in meaningful ways and some examples are included below:

Crossfit Galleon

We are proud to work with Galleon who support our Key Stage 2 pupils to keep fit and healthy.  Children in Year 3 - Year 6 take part in weekly Crossfit lessons for one half term each year as part of the PE curriculum. We think this forges great relationships with the gym from a young age and encourages children to consider membership outside of school.

Perran Bay Care Home

As part of a topic on community, pupils learn to sing traditional songs and then visit senior citizens in the local care home to sing the songs together.  Senior citizens have then been invited to school to sample homemade treats and enjoy more singing. This has been a hugely successful project

Refill Store and Mr Fruity

To support heathy eating and to encourage pupils to make sustainable choices, we work with the local Refill store and the local fruit and veg shop.  The staff at the Refill Store have spoken to children in assembly about the importance of making sustainable choices and children visit the shop to see this first-hand.

In addition, pupils in year 3 run a healthy tuck shop which includes survey children about their preferences and using money to purchase the fruit each week.

Beach School

This community project is supported by:

  • Piran Surf Shop
  • Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club
  • Perranporth Surf School
  • The RNLI and
  • Surfers Against Sewage

More infornation can be found on the 'Beach School' tab.

Newquay Sports Partnership

As a member of the Newquay sports partnership, we attend weekly sporting events and tournaments with the Newquay Tretherras and Newquay Treviglas secondary schools.

Truro City of Lights

Biannually, we take part in the Truro City of Lights event.  We work alongside a local artists to create lanterns and then join with hundreds of others to parae through Truro.  Alongside the visual spectacle City of Lights is a feast of of music and dance including samba, brass bands and pipes and drums.

Truro Foodbank

Each year, we welcome Truro Foodbank into school to talk with children and parents about the important role of the foodbank in our society.  We are overwhelmed with the amount of food that is generously donated each year.

Perranzabuloe Church

Each year we visit Perranzabuloe Church and lead a carol service alongside Perranporth Primary School.

Goonhavern Show

Every summer the school children play a big part in the annual Goonhavern Horticultural and Domestic Show.

There are over 100 sections dedicated to the children’s entries covering all ages from pre-school up to Year 6.  The wide range of categories includes handwriting, baking, potted marigolds, needlework, computer designs and shell craft. Each child can enter as many categories as they wish, and many parents are seen taking armfuls of assorted crafts to the venue on Show morning ready for judging!  All entries are displayed during the Show and the children take great delight in finding theirs and showing them off to friends and family.

With various attractions including a bouncy castle, band, barbeque and cream teas, it’s a great day out whether you’ve entered or not.

Find more details including entry forms at the Show website – we hope to see you there!
