Richard Morse
My name is Richard Morse and I am the Chair of Governors at Goonhavern Primary School. I have 2 children currently in the school, both in the juniors. I have been a member of the Governing Body for over 5 years. In my professional life I am a Consultant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, in my personal life I enjoy doing activities with my family and friends; whether that be walking, under canvas, on a bike or boat!
I have always loved reading and continue to read daily for pleasure, both fiction and non-fiction. One of the great pleasures of our children growing up is re-exploring books that I loved as a child and reading them aloud with fresh eyes. It has also been a joy to discover a whole new generation of amazing children’s authors.
I have chosen 2 books as my recommended reads, one old and one new.
Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian (1981) is a powerful, deeply moving and wonderfully evocative story set in WWII about the life of a boy evacuated from inner city London to live in the countryside. It is, without doubt, my favourite children’s book of all time.
The Last Bear by Hannah Gold (2021) is a stirring, thought-provoking tale bringing aspects of ecology and climate change sensitively to a dramatic and page-turning story.
